The Otherside* by Jacqueline Woodson
I th0ught that this book was phenomenal! It is about an African American girl who lives on the end of town where there is a long fence seperating her house from the white side of the town. The young girl, Clover does not understand why she can not go on the other side and play with the other girl. When Clover asks her mother, she tells her that when she gets older she will understand but not now when she is young. Eventually the two girls sit on the fence and become friends but do not cross the line. This is a good multicultural book to read to students ranging four to eight years old. I was intrigued to learn what was going to happen between the two girls.

This sounds like a really great book to teach about race/ethnicity and prejudice. I think children would really gain an understanding for the above mentioned by using this book. I think many children do not understand prejudice at that age so this may be a great way to introduce it to them.
